It’s been a busy year for GBAS!
Last month, it held its largest workshop to date, with roughly 160 attendees packing the Straughn Professional Development Center to learn about creating more effective teams. Together with facilitators, attendees had the opportunity to analyze where their teams are within Tuckman’s Model—forming, storming, norming, performing or adjourning—and how to move their teams to the next level. They also learned about research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on high-performing teams and the specific kinds of communication that are essential to team success. On Nov. 20, the Fall 2019 GBAS Institute will be held in Emerson Alumni Hall. The theme is “Encore! Back by Popular Demand,” with the GBAS community having voted on prior sessions they’d like to see again, including “Building UF’s Budget,” “Using Emotional Intelligence for Crucial Conversations,” “#ManagingUP” and more. Back in July, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Mike McKee, GBAS Director Barbara Mitola and GBAS training manager Gwynn Cadwallader were selected to present at the annual National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) conference in Austin, Texas. They presented best practices for building a community of practice, highlighting the partnership between UFHR Training & Organizational Development and the Office of the CFO that has allowed GBAS to exist, grow and thrive.
