Radical Financial Transparency

Over the course of 2024, in an effort to develop a consistent and clear view of operational activity and performance across the University, the CFO’s office undertook the Radical Financial Transparency initiative. The primary goal of this project was to thoroughly evaluate operational, financial, and academic metrics for all administrative, auxiliary, and academic units in an objective manner. The initiative also included various enterprise-wide, University-level evaluations related to the University’s operational, financial, and organizational effectiveness more broadly, covering areas such as benefits, space utilization, and procurement and sourcing. This initiative has enhanced transparency and visibility into how University resources are deployed, provided insights for University Leadership about funds usage and opportunities for enhanced efficiencies or greater investment, and better enabled internal resource prioritization investment decisions. From a unit-level perspective, this initiative has equipped academic and administrative leaders with an objective and user-friendly data dashboard, titled “Health of a Unit,” to manage their organization’s finances and operations more effectively.

The Health of a Unit Dashboard will serve launching point for the CFO Intelligence & Analytics Dashboard suite, with more useful resources coming in the future.

Direct access to the dashboard can be found here: CIA Dashboard Suite SharePoint site or on the CFO Intelligence & Analytics site. The FI_UNIVERSAL_INQUIRY role is required to access the dashboards. Additional resources, including videos, a getting-started guide, and a data dictionary, are also available on the SharePoint site.
