Construction Projects

Minor Construction Projects

A minor construction project at the University of Florida refers to a construction or renovation effort with a budget of less than $7.5 million. These projects are typically requested by colleges, departments, or entities through the construction project portal. Once approved, they are assigned a respective Minor Project number, a project manager, and a contract administrator to oversee scope and budget discussions.

Major Construction Projects

A major construction project at the University of Florida typically involves large-scale development, renovation, or expansion efforts with a budget exceeding $7.5 million. These projects are managed by UF Planning, Design, and Construction (PDC) and often include new academic buildings, research facilities, infrastructure upgrades, and campus-wide improvements. Some recent major projects include renovations to the Basic Science Third Floor, the Florida Museum Thompson Earth Systems Institute Addition, Malachowsky Hall Data Science Building and the Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience.

Accounting for Construction Projects

At the University of Florida, Construction Accounting ensures proper financial management for all fixed capital outlay construction projects. The Construction Accounting department maintains accounting and budgetary records within the myUFL system, coordinates funding sources with Facilities Planning, and serves as a liaison with the State of Florida Capital Programs Office. Each project requires a unique project number to track transactions, and expenditures must be recorded in designated capital project funds.
