UF requires an annual inventory of attractive property. Categories include any electronics that have a hard drive, equipment that is purchased on sponsored agency agreements that by regulations must be tracked, any vessel that requires a tag and title from the Department of Motor Vehicles or Federal Aviation Administration, and any equipment purchased on UF Fund Code 163.

 

Capital Property

Capital equipment property at the University of Florida includes tangible assets valued at $10,000 or more that are tracked and recorded in UF’s financial system. These assets must meet capitalization thresholds and are subject to annual inventory verification to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

 

Capital and Non-Capital Livestock

Capital livestock at the University of Florida includes animals valued at $10,000 or more, either through purchase or donation. Non-capital livestock consists of animals below this threshold, including all offspring from university-owned livestock, which must still be documented and tracked by department.

 

Federal Property

Federal property at the University of Florida includes assets acquired through federal grants, contracts, loans, or surplus programs, which must be tracked and safeguarded per government regulations. UF uses special asset codes and decals to identify federally owned equipment, ensuring compliance with reporting and inventory requirements.

 

Foreign Travel/Shipments

The University of Florida requires travelers to submit a Foreign Travel or Shipment Request via the myAssets Portal before taking UF-owned equipment abroad. Asset Management reviews requests to ensure compliance with export control regulations, and approved travelers receive an authorization letter to assist with customs clearance.
